On the way to the evening 10 tonight, i was at the top of my road turning right onto a busy road. The bus that comes down my road(well the road i live on) is coming down it. I'm sat in primary, its not a wide road to come down but chavs come up it sometimes and will sit next to me there. Theres a break in the traffic coming from the right, and sometimes the busses will hold the taffic up on the left and let you go(they come from the left.)
This stupid bus driver decides he would rather struggle then let me go. So i sit there, he struggles and goes close to a wall. I even move because i though he would hit me, and give him a well done, did add a stubben w...... at the end) He asked what the problem was, i said he could of let me go and not struggled. But he just said he had right of way.
Now did he have right of way, i dunno. I just called him something else and decided to leave it.
Then a subaru came past close, and slowed down next to me. I hit a small-ish stone that i didnt see and the back tyre shot it into the side of the car. Heard it, so did they. I looked around because i didnt realise what it was. Ahh, i love my Giant, its got a grumpy mind of its own:becool:

I become overcome with guilt when things like that happen.:becool:

If I getya, the bus is turning left into the road, out of which you are making a right turn...and the bus struggled to make the left turn because you were in primary at the junction, and he needed the extra width to make the turn.

I would've made room for the bus!

I think Joe24 was turning right into a major road. The bus coming from the left on the lane that Joe wants to join, and is turning right into the minor road.

The bus has right of way, but if the bus lets Joe across the road, the bus then doesn't have the drive around Joe.

You didn't know but you called him something anyway.
Sometimes drivers of large vehicles allow smaller vehicles and bicycles to proceed even although the larger vehicle may have priority. A problem can occur if a third vehicle comes along expecting to see the large vehicle move, but actually the smaller vehicle moves unexpectedly and a collision or near miss occurs.
Rather than risk this situation, the driver of the large vehicle may decide to proceed even although the turn may be difficult.
We all complain about buses now and again, but these drivers have a difficult job manoeuvring around some of our congested narrow streets and deserve a little consideration I think, so lets not call them stupid, and certainly don't give them a "stubben w.....", whatever that is!!!

mmm… a little confusing?

You are in the minor road waiting to turn right onto the major –
The bus is in the major road waiting to turn right into the minor road –
You are in the primary position – the road is narrow, so the bus has trouble taking the turn because you are “in the way” as he’ll need to cut the corner?

That was the impression I got – I might be wrong.

If the above is correct then, in my opinion, common sense would dictate to let the cyclist (or any other vehicle for that matter) go first, especially if the size of your vehicle means that you have to cut the corner on the turn.

I think the “right of way” statement is a wrong – no such thing as right of way on the road in that sense – think you mean priority?

Quote from HC: “The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident.”

If you were already at the junction I don’t see how you could avoid being in the way whilst maintaining a safe and appropriate road position. Sounds like te bus driver was being a little bit of an idiot.

TwickenhamCyclist, thats right. Me turning right onto a major, the bus turning right into a minor. I had been sitting there for a while waiting to go, and you have to sit slightly forward because it was someone bright idea to put a big knuckle thing on the courner so cars can park there, so its hard to see sometimes when someone parks a van there.
What annoyed me was the fact that he could of let me go in the gap, then turned down the road with no trouble. Instead he decided to turn down the road, and make it so that i needed to move. Which i did move, but going back isnt the easiest thing, no room to go forward, and going to the left is not the easiest thing to do.

Personally, if i come up to there and theres a car waiting to come out, if there is a short gap in the traffic i will either quickly turn down so the car can go aswell, or wait for the car coming out the road to go before i turned down the road. The way i see it is if they were there first and have been waiting then its them to go. But thats just me.

The bus had priority but according to the HC he should have allowed Joe to proceed in order to avoid an incident. If Joe had been in a car this is exactly what would have occurred but no way was he going to lost out to a little frigging cyclist!

Joe, you were in the right, this bus driver was just being a pig headed tosser!

That's not the HC saying that the bus should have ceded priority to Joe24. It is a simple statement about trying to avoid incidents.

Come on, keep going, what does that statement say? Avoiding incidents? What could/should the bus driver have done? Why did he choose not to? Come on, come on, you're so close.

Hello? Anyone home?

Come on regultor, we're not in the playground here, it is for grown ups to discuss issues that effect us in one way or another.

Joe was in the way of the buses trajectory, he could and should have allowed Joe to proceed whereafter he could have pulled into the side road unimpeded. He chose not to for reasons best known to himself but would he have attempted to do the same had Joe been sitting there in his Toyota Amazon 4x4?
