In Joe's position, I'd have moved back/over to let the bus get off the main road, myself. There are plenty of tight turns here in York where right of way has to give way to common sense to allow buses to get round. However, eyeballing the driver with a smile and an expression of "can you let me go, so I'm out of your way?" might well have lead to him waving Joe on perhaps?

It wouldn't have hurt Joe much to give the driver room, just as it wouldn't have hurt the driver to let Joe out.

Whilst all the "voice of reason" comments are absolutely correct, the actions of the bus driver strike me as the "might is right" mindset of motoring. There's no way the bus driver would have tried that had Joe been a large motor vehicle.

I'll admit, I can get on my high horse about rights and stuff, but sometimes it's worth just giving way. Having driven a large vehicle myself, I know how easy it is to start a move and then realise you've run out of room, even for the best driver.

firstly if you have any gib from bus drivers, report them!! should be ewasy to do as you know the bus route number and time and it shouldn't be that hard to find the bus comapny's telephone number.

The thing is that really i had no-where to move to. I was expecting to be let go, but waited and he was turning in.
Infact if i was in a car he probably would of let me go, but he was just going by him being bigger then me. I had a right to be where i was, i did move, but not until he had turned down and did his moving inch by inch, and there was a gap for me to move into, that was to the left, i even moved into the cycle land to get out his way. If i didnt he would more then likely touched my front wheel, or come very close.
If i was in a car, he would of taken off the front of the car. The road is tight, the whole route is tight from speaking to someone i know that drives a bus around that route, they had problems with bits on the underside of the busses coming off, apparently the first day the new busses cam on the route a water hose under the bus was riped off and it had to be towed off.
Whats wrong with using with using some brain power and thinking "Oh, i could let him go, that would make it easier for me to get down" afterall, arent bus drivers counted as professional drivers aswell?

All very well to say, but have you ever looked at a long vehicle trying to turn into a narrow road? They often cannot physically do it without crossing the mid line, it's just how the steering geometry works. If you want buses to serve anything other than main roads, it's something you have to put up with...

I reckon both the bus driver and Joe were being unreasonable, sorry! I can certainly understand Joe's frustration though, it's sometimes very annoying to be bullied out of your position by a bigger vehicle.

assuming that this wasnt the drivers first time on this route, he would realise that he needed the extra space, and seeing as joe was already waiting, wouldnt have cost him anything to let him go, its common courtesy IMO, and then he could have negotiated the turn quicker and without having to worry about hitting the other vehicle, as i understand it (and i could be wrong) a cyclist should be treated with the same standards as any other vehicle, and a car probably wouldnt have been able to move over for him to pass..............

i think what joe was trying to point out is that surely common sense is sometimes (and more often than not) more important than who has priority..

A vehicle turning right from a major road onto a minor road has priority over a vehicle turning right from a minor onto a major road.

The bus had priority - I'm afraid you were just being a twat Joe24. It wouldn't have cost you anything to be polite and give the bus the room it needed to complete its turn.

How about if Joe24 had been in a car? Would you have expected him to move the car out of the way?

He wasn't in a car though, he was on a bike which is easy to move in comparison. To be fair, I think we would also expect a car to reverse in this situation.

LOL, no, I'm much more middle of the road than you might like to suggest. On one topic I'm getting called a car apologist, and on another a cyclist apologist, LMAO!

As I said above, the bus driver was just as much to blame as Joe, there's no reason why the bus driver couldn't show a bit of courtesy.
