I'm supposed to be taking down a conservatory this week to make way for a new one next week.

About an hour ago I fell off the ladder! And now I have a bruise on me leg the size of a tennis ball, I am not exaggerating!

About 30 minutes agoI was sat on the sofa with a huge ice pack on my leg, I sat up to move it slightly, and I fainted! I came too about 3/4 minutes later covered in a cold sweat!

I'm ok now, but I've still got the leg in the ice pack, but Christ it don't 'alf hurt!

Bloody idiot!

Should have been wearing a helmet!

have you considered A&E or do you know the cause of the fainting - seriously. sounds like you could be in shock and need some medical attention. After coming off a ladder and fainting some time afterwards I would be considering A&E via an ambulance... driving & fainting don't mix. Do you have anyone at home with you?

The enemy will be home from work in a minute, we'll have a look at then, I might need a visit to A&E.

good because I have been there done that too many times on my own and know your own judgement needs to be suspected in these situations and I don't like the idea of you fainting whilst trying to stand after a fall.

I was laying on the sofa when I fainted, which was lucky.

Ouch - that sounds nasty! I hope it heals well.

Just in case though (and I know I keep mentioning it, before anybody bothers to point that out to me again!) but 'better safe than sorry' ... When I was being rushed off to hospital last summer, the paramedics told me that they deal with lots of people who develop DVTs after suffering heavy bruising to their legs, so make sure you watch out for any symptoms (see NHS Direct page).

yep - tis not the landing that's the major issue - it is your airway after you have landed that I am more concerned about (I fainted whilst out cycling some 3 weeks ago and go lucky with the soft mud I landed in... parts hurt afterwards, but at least I never felt a thing and I know why I fainted/lost consciousness).

Update. As soon as the enemy saw it she said A&E! Anyway we've just got back. Bloody quick service today, checked up, Xray'd up, bandaged up! Apparently I had a bit of bleeding in the muscle that made it all swell up, so, leg up on pillows and keep off it for a few days.

Oh well it could have been worse. Thanks for all the advice folks!

was wondering where you have vanished to and was hoping it was SWMBO taking you to A&E. glad you got it checked out.
Standard RICE now. rest, ice, compression, elevation.
take it easy for a few days & rest well... best wishes
thanks for letting us know!
