Nearly didn't cycle today but checked the local weather station and saw there was no wind at all along the beach and it was comfortably above freezing and decided to ride to work.
Well got about 10 miles in and found a patch of inch thick slush all the way across the road where a standing puddle had been driven through repeatedly.
Got though that without the slightest hint of trouble, unfortunately got 5 metres up the hill and just as I pushed on a pedal I heard (or didn't hear) that lovely silence that means ice ice ice.
Of course the front wheel went sideways instantly and before I knew it I'm sat on the deck watching the sheep in the adjoining field all looking at me.
Luckily I landed on the fleshy bit off my forearm rather than the pointy bit, I'm a bit scraped up but no boney pain so that's good. No idea where the bit of brifter that snapped off went, it's a clean smooth road so should have been able to find it easy enough.
I'm afraid there's no real point to this story, just wanted a bit of a grumble really. Beware the sneaky hidden ice I guess and take care out there.
.... still glad I got out and cycled though.
