I am currently laying on the back seat of my car holding a hair drier just off the floor trying to dry out the carpet in the rear passenger footwell, found to be very wet earlier today.
I feel like a total berk.

By the way, if anyone knows what may cause a leak into the rear passenger footwell of a VW Passat estate please let me know.

Oh dear! Does your central locking, alarm and elec windows all work ok?

B5 & B5.5 Passats are renowned for flooding the footwell on the passenger side due to blocked drains in the scuttle panel where the battery lives. The cabin control ECU lives down there somewhere and this can be irreparably damaged by the dampness.

Was aware of that problem, and have taken steps to ensure the drains remain unblocked - frequently. Good suggestion though.
