yesterday I was at my wife's sister-in-laws 40th at a not especially posh bar in manchester.

the cost of 1 small bottle of peroni beer and two glasses of wine was £20.35

anyone else got a similar story of stupidly overpriced stuff?

Madness!

i remember paying a similar amount for two beers and a bag of crisps in the piazza san marco, but then i was on honeymoon in venice, not in a function room in manchester...

Very similar locations really, ever present whiff of sewage, can't understand a word most people are saying, mind you Manchester is less likely to sink...........

I work in Cannes, France for one week a year in January for a music biz festival. Order a beer or a coffee in one of the top hotels along the sea front, The Carlton, Majestic, Martinez etc...you wont get much change out of a tenner.

£12.75 for a pint and a large glass of wine, in a town centre pub, in a town in Sussex.

When it was her round she bought much cheaper wine!

I had to go to Geneva for work once early last year. The host of the meeting insisted we went to his favourite bar in a nice hotel which, funnily enough, I've stayed in before, in another life at someone else's considerable expense. Very nice it is too. I bought a round, three drinks, got no change from £50. Didn't buy a second round.

Didn't claim it on expenses. Wouldn't have been allowed. I wrote the expenses policy.:cursing:

Once upon a time in Greece there were no fixed prices in bars, I sat at a table and a woman came and sat across from me, I ordered a beer and the guy came back with two beers one for me and one for her. He said "Two beers 10 drachma," I said "I only want one, I have no idea who this woman is" then he said "Okay, one beer 10 drachma."

Hard to say if it really is overpriced - end of the day it was purchased so maybe they have their pricing spot-on or possibly underpriced.
