Sturmey rear drum hub

Hello everyone.

The parts on my Rudge Biframe are starting to look a bit sad.

I have a 26" wheel built with a Sturmey 3 speed drum hub in my parts bin. I imagine it's from a Pashley Mailstar, as it has a big cog already fitted and they were quite low geared. I quite like the idea of turning it into a 3 speed. I can't ride it up a lot of hills here with its 21speed casette so I thought why not? I love a 3 speed, and it's not like it's a lightweight. I'd even add a chainguard, because having looked into those derralieur ones I wouldn't want one.

My only issue is the fold and cable routing.

Is there anything like a separable brake and gear cable? or should I just have a slightly longer cable and not worry about it?

Oh, heck - I should have put this in technical - can a mod move it please?

Plenty of folding shoppers (Raleigh Twenty, Dawes Kingpin etc) use a SA three-speed hubs - as you say, they just rely on some slack in the cable to accommodate the fold.
