Sub-zero Cameras

I tried to use my Muvi clone last week when I was skiing in Finland.  It doesn't appear to work at -9C and below.  Is this typical of most cameras, or just this cheap one.  My normal Nikon digital camera works OK and the clone works now I am back home.

Could be a battery issue. The solution inside might have frozen.

A lot of Helmet cams are marketed for ski/ snowboarding, so I guess you get what you pay for.

My ContourHD is fine, the only problem I had was charging it as it is a bad idea when below freezing.
I now charge it in my battery box on my bike with my other li-ion rechargeable batteries, kept nice and warm by a heated throw.

I keep the battery, or whole camera in a warm place until you're going to use it.

I've had this problem with camera batteries so kept them on inner pockets until needed (and then switched them in and out every so often).

My "Muvi" worked fine down to around -7c (last year) but not been using it for the last few months.

The Muvi is marked as having a -10c operating temperature.

If its anything else its likely to be the (recording) button itself (this is crap in all versions).

My original muvi works fine, the muvi 'pro' with the date stamp will give up and claim it's flat! (-1 to -5 I'm guessing)

My original MUVI works fine too.

However, I do keep it in a warm place (by my PC where I usually charge it), its turned on as soon as I start my ride and only has 1.25hrs battery life anyway.

Mine packed up around the same temperature last week, it was okay after warming up. Only problem is it shut down with the lens open and I managed to scratch it. It's a Sony Cybershot IIRC. Guess just have to keep them somewhere where they keep warm!

the old atc2000/3000s used to have socks for sale to keep them warm in cold weather
