Jeff Beck's instrumental version of Nessun Dorma has just finished playing on my CD on this balmy, open-windowed, summer evening. And perfection, true perfection it is too. Then it occurred to me: various fat Italians and Spaniards have been mincing around with this piece of music for a couple of centuries and even worse singing it and then along comes good old Jeff and gets to the heart of the matter in a oner. It's even better than Hi-Ho Silver Lining. Funny old world, innit?
