Suffolk Sunrise 100 (£50!)

I was going to ride the Suffolk Sunrise 100 until I discovered that on-the-line entry is £50.

Surely this is beyond a joke and counter-productive in terms of raising money for charity (which is the main reason behind the ride)?

I know that in previous years they have had about 700 riders. Compare this to the much cheaper Norwich 100 which achieves over 3000 riders each year.

I don't have much of an opinion on Sportives, but you have to be an absolute mug to spend that amount of money to ride on a road still open to the public.

OK, I should correct myself here I think.

The on-the-day entry fee of £50 includes a charity donation. If you enter in advance for £28 you are expected to raise at least £30 for charity; so by entering on the line you are essentially paying the charity money from your own pocket - which I suppose isn't too bad. The website doesn't make that clear, it just says £50 for on-the-line entry.

Alternatively, spend £10 entering my 400km "Avalon Sunrise" audax and make a donation to the charity of your choice.

If the Suffolk event costs £28 to enter then the 400 is more than ten times cheaper per kilometre
