Sugino Bottom Bracket lets water in! Should I be concerned?

Good evening all.

Twas recently my birthday and my darling family got me the following despite me dropping hints at an Ipod! What an ungrateful sod I am but anyway.....

Sugino 75 Crank
Sugino Zen Ring
Sugino Superlap bottom bracket

My local bike shop just installed them both for me and done their usual very good job. The mechanic did express a concern that considering my bike is an all year around single speed commuter this particular Sugino bottom bracket is not "sealed" as such. The result could be that water could more easily get in the bottom bracket and might need a regular service. It would not be something I would feel confident doing myself.

Should I perhaps purchase another bottom bracket - Phil Wood perhaps? In an effort to spare my family's feelings they would not notice a different bottom bracket.

Any advice, as always, would be appreciated.

From a quick Google it looks old-skool adjustable, which is all well and good, but built for a nice clean, dry track. I'd either learn how to service it (it's not too complex), or get a Shimano sealed unit on there and reckon on replacing it every few years. Certainly don't run the Sugino till it keels over - that'd be a waste of a nice piece of kit.

Er, why not run it for 6 months or a year and them run iot in for a service and lube? When it wears out, it wears out, it's a bike part not a museum piece.

Because it's eighty quids worth of track rated hardware!!
It's very good stuff, just not ideal for wet commuting. It'd be a shame to knacker it in the rain, that's all.
