Just booked my Summer Hols.

Week in Swanage, Dorset first week of August.

Flat overlooking the coast.

Lukewarm sun and lukewarm tins of lager.

Love it.

You'll miss the jazz festival then but it'll be heaving with pot-bellied tourists with hankies on their heads. That said, there are some nice bars along the front where one can sit and consume icy cold lager and watch the world and his dog go by.

Some good riding to be had in the area too.

Isle of Skye for me, 1st week of July.

Heading of to southern France. We have a campsite booked at the foot of Mt Ventoux and will watch the TdF on its penultimate day. We are taking the bikes in the car and will be cycling most days. We might head off to the Alps to watch the tour on one of the final week stages - not sure yet. So our 2 weeks will be spent; cycling, eating French cheese, drinking French wine and enjoying the scenery. Thankfully the cycling offsets the damage done by the eating and drinking to excess.

We're cycling to a villa somewhere in france, staying there for a week, and then cycling back. That's about the extent of our planning so far...

I had a long weekend at Swanage a little while ago and hired mountain bikes from a bike shop in Swanage and had a lovely little ride through to corfe castle and then on to Lulworth Cove. Highly highly recommended, the hills are quite steep but not too tall and the views are gorgeous.

Also there is a horse-riding centre just about four miles from Swanage which caters for all abilities (including absolute beginners, like I was) and took us on an hours ride through a forest and out into the countryside...not too pricey and also highly recommended!

Jammy barsteward. That's my favourite place on earth. The only problem is travelling there. Or more properly, travelling home. The first time I went, I'd been on a business trip to San Francisco two weeks' previously and it took the same time to travel to SF as it did to Portree!

I've never made it across to Swanage, but holidayed close by many times in Weymouth. I love it down there, and as Melvil says, Lulworth is beautiful. Lovely coastline down there.

Summer holidays - now we are talking
1 week MOD training with cadets in Kent, 1 week adventure training(most likely in windamere), a few days youth hostelling with an old friend, most likely hopping accross the water to do a week cycling in france if I can find suitable company.

Still have another 3 or 4 weeks to fill. Beach BBQ anybody?

No concrete plans at the minute, but I am really in the mood to go cycling in the Peak District, especially near reservoirs.
Failing that, either a few more days in Germany or a week in the sun. Not had one of them since 2005
