I'm going to have to put summer tyres on over the weekend. Much as I'm enjoying the resistance training of averaging 16mph on Marathons, there's a guy on a Cervelo keeps KEEPING UP WITH ME!!! I can't have this!

What is it with you and tyres!! ;)

Just buy some Schwalbe Duranos. You can use them all year around and they are fast too. However, always keep the pressure up as they like to pinch..

Now I hadn't thought of that. I've got Duranos on Lelly!

The Marathons were a knee jerk purchase after I had 3 punctures in one day on the way to work and back. They are good but they take a fair bit of effort to keep them above 22-23mph. I could just leave them alone to get stronger

Maybe he's just faster than you anyway?

Seriously you should follow the MacB and now me route and go for comfort over speed, nice pair of 35mm Marathon anythings should see you right

Not possible he's just not designed that way...physically he could do it no problem but mentally...not a chance. Just using normal marathons has obviously threatened his mental equilibrium. Using a properly heavy, or slow(though none of them are actually that slow despite internet claims), tyre would see him mentally implode. Even if you kitted him out with a lighter, faster rolling, larger tyre he couldn't cope with the width or the lack of a harsh ride would scream slowness, rather than comfort, at him. It would start with a level of uncertainty and balloon, like the tyres, to full blown paranoia within a few miles. You'd then be reading comments like 'pedalling through treacle', though I've yet to find anyone that's actually tested this by pedalling through some treacle.

It may not seem much to you or I, a few seconds or minutes over our best times, but it would eat away at Martin

I don't mind the Marathons that much. I have managed to keep my average speed up but as I say it requires more effort. And then having some upstart on a Cervelo keep up is just not on. I'll stick some lighter tyres on, blast him away and then go back to the safety of the marathons

Yes but Nelson is part of a wonderful distant land. Who am I kidding it's a s***ehole. The countryside around it which is where I'm actually from is nice though!
