Coming home last night I stopped at a set of lights. There was one car in front, slow to react to the change to green and set off erratically (slow with sudden bursts of acceleration). I decided to overtake and as I went past I realised why. The driver was eating an ice cream cone and having trouble using her tongue to catch those little drips that run down the side (she was contorting into really weird positions), never mind changing gear or accelerating smoothly.
At a later set of lights, I was in the ASL in front of a lady of a certain age who was driving a convertible BMW, roof down, shades on. As there is a pinch point at the other side of the junction I was up on the pedals to make sure I cleared it before she was tempted to overtake. I shouldn't have worried, the nice lady waited behind me. For ages. Even when it was clear to overtake she stayed behind me. Eventually she did pass, but slowed down while overtaking to give me smile and a little wave before accelerating away. I would have been flattered but she was old enough to be my mum (and I'm no spring chicken).
