OK, I want to fill a white room (which must have a black ceiling) with pineapple chunks, and invite visitors to swim through the chunks, from a door at ground level to a door about 20 metres above. At the end, they get some gammon to take home, but they have to take it home stuffed down their pants. Wow. I am an artist. Give me some money.

Now that, Fnaar, has a certain attractive perversion to it...

It's a bit like Anish Kapoor stuff (and others) in that it's pleasing to the eye (to some) and stimulates debate but the biggest debate is where does ART begin.
I have a gut feeling that if people are paid loadsamoney for something that essentially needs no talent then it is dubious.
I recently visited the Matisse exhibition in France (I was just passing) and while the guy could paint, as was demonstrated by his early work, when he was famous he got paid for doing childish line drawings that a new artist would have been rightly laughed out of the gallery.

It's getting paid for cute ideas. That's it. If you can blag it, fair play to you! But that doesn't make it art or talent (except the talent for blagging it, and the art of getting away with it)

If the oil in the tank is renewed, is the art still authentic? Is the art in the tank or in the oil? Are there not two co-extant works - the tank and the oil? Or is the art the location and the installation its egress? Would the location be better art without the artifice? Is every location not art and thus every location without 20:50 better art?

It's nice to look at, and it's a cute idea. But my pineapple chunk idea is just as worthy. In fact I'm full of 'em. I'd like to get paid (please) for aligning 20,000 right-foot trainers along the A1, starting at Peterborough, going north. Every 2nd shoe will be a Nike. It's a comment on 3rd world debt, and the role of sport in bringing people together.

That slice of ship isn't such a new idea; here's a picture I took in Pakistan in the mid '80s:

Too cerebral, lacks impact. Make them 20-foot-high perfect replicas for that visceral kick in the, erm, guts and you're on to a winner.

Spot on! Shall we team up? Alan & Fnaar, a bit like Gilbert & George (without the poo)

I do hope he didn't use "used" sump oil. That stuff can contain real nasties (H&S wise). The stench might be telling you something.....

Very thin layers of oil on water - now that's art (and science)

He didn't make the reflections or the building that is reflected. He simply provided the means to see a reflection. He could have done the same thing with a mirror. It's not ART it's faciliting a pleasant experience. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that.
