Dammit, woke up earlier than intended, couldn't go back to sleep (why???), so got up early, got a load of laundry on in the forlorn hope that I might be able to dry it a bit under cover outside later, and plunged into a bath of coffee.

No plans to do much more than that, TBH, given the forecast. At least my new replacement laptop isn't restarting every 30 minutes, and the shift key isn't only 2mm wide, so there's something to be positive about 🌧️☔

Morning

The Erinyes is wreaking soggy havoc upon us, so I am not happy with you SG,
As in the previous; conditions will dictate a bit a slow day. Maybe some roller action.

But first: coffee.

We don’t have soggy here yet but it’s blowing a gale and gloomy. So it will be finish my coffee then take Bertie out for a walk, then I’m led to believe he will having a shower. Which usually proves challenging and entertaining in equal measure.

Morning Folks,

Traditional Sunday slow start done, just having a coffee then need to do a tip trip and get some new wipers for the car: the excitement is killing me. My watch the Netflix thing about Alex Honnold free solo-ing Taipei 101 later, @Webbo2 that might be up your street.

I like climbing; there's a rather large climbing centre in the village which I occasionally frequent, but I don't get free soloing. It's just reckless. How does the wanton removal of safety increase the achievement and the spectacle?

Anyhow, it looks pretty grim over here and it's not saying: come on out and have a good time.

Dad taxi and maths revision may punctuate the likely highlight of coffee.

'man does something risk free' isn't attention getting, and there's the 'look at me' aspect, but these days i'd assume it's mostly about the money from sponsors, social media, etc.

i certainly could've climbed gmc's london building using the corner stonework, but it'd be silly

Not really it’s a just bit of pay day for him and pandering for the masses. There is a French guy Allian Roberts I think who just used to rock up and do these things. Often got arrested as he pulled over the top of the building.

Fair enough - IIRC Alain Robert climbed Tapei 101 a while back but used ropes. This one was the first free solo.

It's a sad indictment of the sport that looking through a gallery of celebrated climbers at Glenmore Lodge was like watching Dad's Army: he's dead, yeah he's dead etc

Some of the more extreme versions of the sport do subscribe to the old base jumpers motto 'If at first you don't succeed, maybe base jumping isn't for you"
