Great result for Saints tonight, saw a bit more ball movement than last year. Defence didn't look as fragile as it did in the friendlies.

Catalan I think did well to stay within 6 of Wigan.

And I think this pretty much sums up the Salford game

How did you enjoy it @Joffey ?

I won't get to see much SL again this year unless her indoors decides we can afford it on Sky.

I am a Leigh Centurions fan anyway & the Championship still offers plenty of quality RL.

Having spent bucketloads of money & our successful coach spectacularly walking out on the Club just 10 days before the season starts, it is difficult to predict whether or not we will get promoted to SL this year after the 8's.

Some of our off season signings.

Rangi Chase *former SL Man of Steel, former NZ & England International & NRL & SL, Castleford & Salford star*

Dayne Weston *former Melbourne Storm NRL player*

Harrison Hansen *ex Wigan/Salford, SL*

Reni Matui *ex NRL & Salford, SL*

Lee Smith *ex England & Leeds, SL*

Corey Patterson *ex NRL & Salford, SL*

Willie Tonga *ex Australia International, NRL, State of Origin & SL (Catalan Dragons) star.

All of this will mean nothing if we fail to get promoted.

Wasn't the best game but I did enjoy it. It's a lovely stadium and the Saints Gold is a nice drop!!

Wow, a massive shock tonight. 44-10!!

Salford were ruthless in attack, motivated, and enjoying. Extremely fast line speed in defence.

Saints on the hand were hopeless, they looked like a confused, poorly coached team.

I saw some of the game. Not having seen Salford get hammered the previous fixture I don't have a frame of reference. Were Salford excellent (in which case what's happened since the Hull game?) or were Saints hopeless?

FWIW it looked more a case of hopelessness by Saints. In which case what's happened to them?

I'm still not convinced by Salford yet. Saints were absolutely hopeless.

I think it all stems from an inexperienced coaching team, all legendary players but not coaches. Cunningham said after the game that he could sense complacency before they began. But this has been the excuse for every loss he has had, so what is he doing about it?

The complacency I think stemmed, from Cunningham. With Roby injured, he chose to play a 20 year old Rookie, in his debut Super League game as a solo hooker. Whilst he had an experienced hooker sat on the bench!

That was just the start of a bizarre squad selection, he played Prop/Loose Forward LMS, at Centre, with a Centre playing in Stand Off, while there was a Stand Off sat on the bench!

The defensive line speed was slow, there were far too many ball handling errors. They looked like they had no attacking game plan other than try and punch through the middle.

The scoreline flattered Salford, but take nothing away from them. They noticed a confused squad, with no energy, so they dominated and took advantage.

This has been coming for a while, mediocre coaches with no experience. Signing players and cast-offs from clubs below, the player that we did sign with some excitement (Fages), barely played.

Cunningham is a legendary hooker, probably one of the best to have played that position. He was never known for his attacking creativity, or team organisation, that guy was always Sean Long. Another legend who was known for some fantastic attacking rugby. Yet Cunningham has appointed him as a defensive coach. When Long played, he was always forced to the wings in defence as he was a weak defender, yet now he is coaching them? While boring one-up Cunningham is coaching attack?!

The results aren't acceptable for Saints, the style of play isn't acceptable for Saints, the attitude isn't acceptable for Saints. In my opinion, his reputation at the club as a player has allowed him too much leniency. I fear Saints will become the next Warrington unless the board make some tough decisions with the coaching team.

If Salford are capable of putting 44 past St Helens, imagine what Wigan, Leeds, and Warrington will do. I expect to see a very embarrassing score next Friday against Sydney.

Yeah what the feck happened there? And it had all started so brightly in the first round.

I'm not sure if there's a bit of romanticism around having Cunningham as coach. He's not doing very badly, I'm just unsure as to whether a more established coach would do better.

We just lost possibly our best ever Head Coach @PhilDawson8270 *Paul Rowley* a fine hooker in his day.

He almost single handedly turned around Leigh Centurions (in coaching, team spirit, squad building/signings) of course with some investment from our Director/Owner, although in his first year he did it on a shoe string budget.

Anyway, my point is that Leigh now play very much in the St Helens in their pomp style, maybe even more so *but at a lower level & (sometimes recklessly so) & it is this rather than our relative success that has doubled our average home attendances.

Now that Leigh fans have had their team play this way for a few year's it is hard to imagine them doing it any other way, just as it seems wrong to see a Saints side play one out RL.

If it is any consolation, Rangi Chase played Fullback on Sunday & dropped to bombs that helped cost us the game, I say helped because he shouldn't have been there in the first place.
We had just signed Lee Smith as cover & competition for Greg McNally at FB & cover for wing/centre, then didn't select him & instead played the Comp's best No6 at FB, beggars belief.

Quite happy with our hookers Higham & Beswick though & our squad looks really strong, especially in the forwards.

Already looking forward to the 8's, just need Wakefield Trinity Schoolgirls to have a wobble at the right time.
