I managed to bag the supernova during one night about a week ago when the clouds parted for once. The SN itself is relatively easy to spot, even from light-polluted Crewe, once you know where to look. Through my 'scope looks just like another faint star, there was no sign of the host galaxy M101 but it is low in the NW ATM and is very faint so is easily washed out by sky glow.

I haven't tried this week due to the cloud cover, but even if it does clear I doubt the full moon will do me any favours.

Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse.

Yep, read this a number of years ago now and would be seriously bright according to those in the know.

Problem is, it could continue to lose mass for quite some time yet. Just round the corner, cosmologically speaking, could be a few centuries but then again who knows?

Hope so, would be very interesting, they reckon it could be as big as the moon and shine through the day. They say it will be entirely safe ! Could be prudent to wrap up in tin foil and hide under a lead roof.

My mum used to say when they were kids, if there was a thunderstorm she used to go to bed with a rubber (eraser) in her cheek because then you couldn't get struck by lightning!
