A few weeks back we found a Rose in Tesco for £3.49 and it was rather good. We went back and bought the last 3 bottles in the shop  It was called 'something' Hill I think. I have rootled about in the glass recycling but the bottles must have gone to the bottle bank on the last trip, so I can't get the exact name.
Not a wine buff by any stretch of the imagination but I know what I like.

Blossom Hill rose is pretty decent, but their reds tang so badly of preservatives their barely worth cooking with!

I've noticed that sometimes in Sainsburys some folk push the really good bargains to the back of the shelves, I assume to come back for them later.

Caves Saint-Pierre Cotes-Du-Rhone from Tesco at £5.49 a bottle, on offer at the moment.

Years ago we had a bottle of blossom hill, a red, and it was the best red I'd ever had. I have never ever found it again though.
I avoid red wine as it makes me very sleepy.

Each to his own R... if you have spare money then why not.
Best supermarket reds we've found were in the Carrefour north of Dijon where Master A_T was on secondment for a year [not in the Carrfour sadly]... Burgundy from the Dijon/Beaune valley . A fraction of the vineyard prices.

The st Emillion is a trifle disappointing. Good structure and tannins, but rather closed on the nose. I would've expected more fruit in a wine of this age.

The Aldi Toro Loco Tempranillo spanish red for £3.59 is really good. Sure there are better reds but for that price in one of the bigger supermarkets I am sure it would be shite. See the link, and I do not read that paper it was just an internet search.

I get all my drink from Aldi and it is really good for the money for nearly everything.

Agree with others, Aldi is a happy hunting ground for wine bargains. Kooliburra Australian Shiraz/Cabernet is excellent as is the Toro Loco mentioned above. Gone now but some stores (only Dav locally) had a gorgeous Mexican red in the spring.
The Minarete Ribera del Duero is also well worth £5.50 a bottle.

Two or three years ago, Aldi were selling one of my favourite wines, Amarone, for a tenner. Not something I often buy because a decent Amarone is a lot more expensive than a tenner elsewhere and our normal wine spend is five to six quid a bottle.

The Aldi one was exceptionally good, so much so that I went straight back the next day and bought the remaining five bottles on the shelf wihout any hesitation. I'd only previously experienced anything like it at a tasting of 30+ quid wines, a price per bottle nowhere near what I would normally be prepared to pay, even as a treat.

What was interesting was that it turned out that there were two distinct wines in exactly the same labelled bottles. Three bottles were a good Amarone for a tenner - nice but not the kind of thing that would make me rush out to buy the remaining stock. The rest were like the first bottle I'd bought - something quite exceptional and very well aged.

I haven't seen any at Aldi since

Isla Negra Cabernet is a nice red. Switches between £5 and £10 a bottle in Tesco.
Whale Caller is also another nice Cabernet - about £5 a bottle in Waitrose

I've got to admit to being a huge wine fan and tend to consume 3-4 bottles per week.

£10 for a bottle of wine is a huge amount these days. I often find crackers for £5ish.

I often go for Australian Shiraz or temprinllo. In fact it's hard to find a bad bottle of temprinillo. A very solid grape variety.

I tend to ignore the Bordeaux wines or anything too oakey. They tend to be too dry.

Why not try a Pinot noir tonight? Very drinkable wine.

It's interesting that you ignore Bordeaux wines and drink the new world stuff. I'm the opposite and typically find new world wines too fruity and full bodied. I think it must be a cultural difference!

Have just bought a dozen selected bottles back from the local French supermarket at an avg price of 3 euros. In the UK I can't afford anything as good. They are Bordeaux, Cotes du Rhone and Languedoc wines. They'll last till I go back then I'll buy a load more to bring over. I gave up buying near channel ports as the quality is not as good in my price range. I rarely drink more than 2 small glasses at one go, as after that I don't appreciate the taste.

We just get shafted for wines in the UK
