Ok, I'm looking at getting a bike for the g/f......after sneaky(not very) questioning her preferance is for something vintage....a la Pashley....however, this bike will be used for commute into Mcr(twice a week) when she starts Uni also a canal path warrior so must take at least 25's.

Having said that I do all of the above on my Van Nic on 23's

Now she's a shorty at about 5'1 maybe 5'2, wind knocks her over.....I'm thinking something like a Whyte Devon or a Liv avail 2.....at a push the Ribble 4600?.....I've toyed with bobbin girl scout or Cross check(retro styled as best as possible).....if anyone knows of offers out there for bikes roughly that size fire away....
OR bin this whole idea and let her get what she wants.....?

Aren't the Devon and avail roadbikes? The giant certainly is as I had one...so not very vintage

Frankly get her what she wants...as a woman, I'd be pretty miffed if otherwise

Perhaps look at the Pendleton range if pashley out of budget

I realise this people however on having a quick go on my bike she loved it...I'm unsure if wanting a vintage type bike is a fashion/image rather than practical option....I fully understand I should go and get the bike she "wants" but I fear after a few miles I'll be going out buying N+1 and will have a house full of bikes....currently 7.

The seven arent mine(kids).....
Seven kids!!! ...sell a couple, get some new bikes for your girlfirned!

Given that one of the most essential aspects of a bike purchase are that it fits, is comfortable and you like the position......

Buying a bike for someone else is fraught with dangers and there is a high chance if yiu get it wrong that it will put her off cycling

THere are a whole range of pastel coloured quality "step throughs" of the Pashley style on the market.

If it was me, then put a day aside to investigate the purchase and let her choose
