Had a real sudden downpour this morning on the way in, I've been away for a week so not sure how dry it's been but the roads were supa-slippy!

I had a near miss (with myself) as I approached the temporary cycle path on Horse guards parade, to do so you need to run over a slightly raised kerb, I ran at it at right angles but was thrown off target by a rider exiting the lane( he looked like he was going to drop off the kerb, but didn't) and so hit the kerb at an angle as I went around the back of him, Back wheel caught it and I did a huge slide.

Kept it together and stayed upright (to the amusement of the traffic Marshall at the entrance).

Just goes to show how slippery the roads are after a dry spell.

Yep, got caught in the storm too.. very heavy for 5 minutes but near enough dried out by the time I got to work.
Plenty of that white gunk appeared as the cars went through the standing water.

Oh.. yes.. kerb grinding... we've all been there I reckon.Did it recently on one of the Sunday rides, near took out Miss TTCycle...gave both her and myself a fright.. glad yours didn't tip you over.

that shell garage on Bromley hill is a nightmare on a motorbike, I've seen 2 riders come off there...next time you go down the hill, take a look at the entrance to the forecourt, check out the angle of approach and the height of the kerb on the ramp...nasty

Ah to those of us who watch BBC Breakfast, it wasn't a surprise. Saw the lovely Carol in the Blue Peter garden with an umbrella and thought to myself "that rain is on my commute somewhere". And true enough it was. Very welcome though. On the way off Shooters Hill towards Blackheath I was thinking "I'm doing over 25mph and not getting any cool breeze, this is silly". Nice cool rain shower sorted it.

I do secretly enjoy these summer showers where the air is still warm and the rain is heavy and sudden. There wasn't a drop of wind so it made for a good ride, Like Ian though I was pretty much dry when I arrived at the office, so no-one believed i'd been caught in it

Hey,

Did you all not look at the status update over there > on the home page ? I forecasted rain as I'm currently on my road bike with no guards, and it will be wet until I get my commute wheels rebuilt.

I have mentioned this before about jj's font, not easy to read especially on a 10" netbook :becool:
I couldn't see what you were on about in my Opera browser - jj's posts look the same as all the others. In Firefox, they do look harder to read though.

I don't know why Opera is rendering the font differently. I'll see if I can figure it out ...
