It was a lovely morning so headed out for my longest ride to date. The state of the roads was shocking. I spent most of the time around 5 ft from the kerb due to the number of potholes and the general crap condition of the side of the road. Some of the holes weren't just large, they were also deep. Thankfully didn't have any really close passes as a result, nearly all drivers gave me loads of room. There was the Mercedes coming through Sunninghill who couldn't wait to show how much power he had and got a bit close but I just figured he was compensating for something ;-)

Also great service from my LBS - I pass them on my ride - they looked at my creaky brakes and gave me coffee while I waited. After 24 miles it was very welcome.

If it's any consolation, it's as bad in the grim North. I've just spent the last 20 minutes reporting various potholes, knackered road surfaces and an excess of mud on the road to the local authorities after todays ride.:bicycle:

The roads are massively terrible out there. It's even worse with thousands of wobbly nodders, wearing bumblebee outfits, or some such thing around you.

You know I was out the other day and thought to myself, would it not be a good idea to carry a small can of white spray paint and circling each really bad pot holes to warn other riders about them.

The local authorities have finally decided to resurface some worn out roads around my area. They've plained the surface off and left us all with a lovely grooved road surface with raised manholes covers to contend with. They've been like it now for nearly two weeks. Why start a job and then leave it half finished is beyond me. Cycling along the 1/2 mile stretches of plained off roads is no fun on skinny 700c/ 23 tyres..My false teeth nearly fell out twice lol :-((

I've never seen anything like the potholes around Weybridge.

A guy died their last winter because of one.

They did some work on them to level them up, but two seasons later they were deathtraps again.

A good idea, but I'm slow enough as it is without stopping every few hundred yards to get the paint out

That happened on my way to work last year - it was rumoured that it had been forgotten about between the two different teams assigned to it...

I deliberately cut one section of Weybridge out of my rides, it's the section with the trenches and caverns, by the shops. It's beyond belief.

Would need a new can every 200 yards in Liverpool!
