After staring nervously at the newly purchased and first road bike ever I finally took the plunge and made the trip to work on greasy roads this morning! I survived all the craziness you commuters know that entails so it just leaves me to say:

Hello to you all!

Having ridden and raced Mountain bikes since the early nineties I am certainly no newbie to the sport but will certainly need help adjusting at all that is Road! It feels very different!

I am 36 and live in Northampton, married to a very understanding South African wife who puts up with my crazy impulse buys and longer, more expensive long term hobbies! No kids, still getting away with playing with toys without them!

Welcome to the forum - you'll undoubtedly soon be reaching the Guiddy heights of cycling!

I’m from a town called Krugersdorp, about 25 minutes from Jo’burg.

My parents are still living on the small holding as they have done for the past 28 years. The parents are coming for a visit in May, and it will be my dad’s first ever trip to the UK, or another country for that matter. I’m sure it is going to be an experience.

Have a lovely time in SA, and eat lots of koeksisters and biltong, I’m very envious .

NO WAY!!!! SMALL WORLD!!! That's exactly where we'll be! Krugersdorp, Just off Rustenburg Drive!
Then heading into Botswana for a week!

Don't forget the boerewors!!!

Small world indeed, so you will be near Ngonyame Lion Lodge - some of the best steak in Krugersdorp!! Just look out for the coppers as you come out of Krugersdorp West onto Rustenburg road, they like to set up speed traps on the down hill close to the lodge.

Think I'll have to go to the SA shop for some boerwors now, got making the biltong down but boerwors is another matter altogether.

hello! no doubt you've seen the press articles over recent months that road bikes are now the thing to buy for the mid life crisis! although i'm only 39 myself, i unfortunately seem to fit in to exactly the sterotype that they portray! anyway have fun on your new steed

Hi Guiddy

Welcome to the dark side. You will love being a roadie. I made the transition about 4 years ago and love the speed and greater distances I can cover.

I still have my MTB which I will never part with and still enjoy the occasional bit of off roading.

Welcome Guiddy. If you ever fancy going a shade darker, look me up. We have nothing to lose but the feeling in our toes ;)

Thanks bud. Yeah, I'll still hit the muddy stuff too, specially as I am the only regular roadie in our crew so it's solo rides at the mo where as Mountain biking is very social round here.

I'll leave my view on the road bike until I feel a bit fitter, right now any pace is hard going! I'll get there!

Love staring at it though!
