I don't think any of my family or friends would drive drunk but if I was with someone (or a group) and saw someone drink a good deal of acohol and then talk about driving home, I'd try to stop them (or convince their friends to stop them) - but call the police? Yes, maybe if all else failed, but perhaps the simple threat that you will call the police if they attempt to drive would be enough to disuade them?

Nowadays I just don't drink any alcohol at all if I'm driving - it's simply not worth it.

Absolutely no hesitation.

And I have done it a number of times, and also caught countless DD'ers when I was a copper - I was quite good at it.

I had a 6th sense for them; they'd clip a kerb, not indicate, indicate when it wasn't needed, drive in circles when I was following (left, left, left to try and lose me)

IMO the worst ones were the 'professional' people, MD's/managers out for drinks and think the RTA means nothing to them in their XJS and BMW..

They were the most obstructive, lying, conniving and (once they realised they were not getting off) the most foul mouthed and personally abusive people I ever dealt with.

If I knew how much the person had drunk then possibly not, but if I saw someone driving who I thought was drunk (swerving in the road) then yes.

Drink - Driving is no longer acceptable as it was say back in the 70's but there are still those who think the law doesn't apply to them or that somehow they become better drivers after a few pints.

Like others have mentioned, I would first try to dissuade a drunken person from driving but if that didn't succeed I wouldn't have any qualms about reporting them.

It's their choice to drive with excess alcohol so they must accept the consequences of their actions but more importantly, the safety of others is paramount.

Because, obviously they are such good drivers that they will never cause an accident however much they drink.

Edit: I used to work with a guy who genuinely believed this and would tell me at length how much he could drink without affecting his driving.
