OK this is a bit of news for those with iPhones etc rather than an attempt to start a debate about the rights and wrongs of Sustrans and/or Apple and/or digital mapping.
Anyway Sustrans have launched an iApp which uses OS mapping. The app is free. The quality of the mapping is good, as you'd expect, and best of all there's a facility to save the mapping for use offline.
I'm afraid I don't know whether they have an Android version in the pipeline.
No it's not a substitute for a paper map.
