I once tried Lindy Hop dancing years ago( when married) but some scrote knocked me off my bike, displaced collar bone so didn't continue. For the last 6 months I started Latin/ballroom with my new girlfriend [ taking a 10 week break at the moment as I just don't have the time]. When on Holiday in Lanzarote we got up on a deserted dance floor and did the Cha-Cha and got a standing ovation, this encouraged another couple who were learning to do the slow jive to get up to another dance and they also got applause. We knew we were fairly cack but nobody else seemed to and people encouraged both of us couples to dance to more stuff. the solo act that was on thanked us at the end for making a dull night more entertaining . If you can dance to any sort of standard as a couple other people can be quite impressed. I always wanted to be able to jive/ rock and roll type dance but turns out I am not suited. Apparently the waltz is my thing which is surprising as I am a stumpy thing.
Being able to dance successfully with your partner is a wonderful feeling, and my girlfriend certainly appreciates it as she learnt to dance as a teenager and I am the first bloke she has met since, who is prepared to give it a bash. ( 30 odd years on she still remembered some of it)
I am looking forward to learning the Tango, likely to be a car wreck though.
@User76 I found the secret to success is lots of practice and not giving a monkeys what other people think, get up there and strut your stuff!
