After nearly 1000 miles, I notice that the tread on my back tyre (specialized all conditions on a Sirrus) is significantly more worn than the front.

This may be an obvious thing to do but...is there any reason not to switch them around? I mean the tyres, not the wheels, of course!

Plenty of reasons not to. I think Sheldon Brown explains better. By swapping tyres you are more likely to have a blow out on the front which is dangerous.

Well, i had read that before. I wear my front tyres quicker than my rears, does that mean i can swap the rear to the front? ;)

Do you spend all your time out of the saddle with your weight over the front wheel? Because otherwise that makes no sense.
