Getting away with what, exactly?

Buying a bike means spending our joint income. Going out on the bike means leaving my wife to look after our two small children. I wouldn't dream of doing either without discussing it with her first.

I think its to do with tied finaces, whilst me and Mrs V have seperate bank accounts and seperate 'spare' cash but if I have too much spare cash Mrs V will wonder if the bills burden is split equally.....

So If I NEED something I buy it.... If I WANT something (and it is a significant purchase) we discuss it, and if we both agree it is justified I save up for it..... (we don't use credit cards for luxuries)

Say I managed to destroy both wheels on way home I would replace them with a similiar quality quickly say £100-£150 as they are essential (as I cant save the commute fuel costs without them) if I wanted to upgrade to better wheels £250-£300 just because I wanted them we would discuss it, and in this example I would probably lose as my current wheels are fine and 6 months old (stock giant wheels)

I see this a lot on here. SWMBO. She who must be obeyed:wacko:.

I read comments about having got permission to go out, to buy a bike, to whatever whatever...

Are guys really so under the thumb??

Come on chaps...don't let them get away with it...we have a right to be men....:popcorn::popcorn:

I always find this odd as well but I think, as mentioned above, it is more to do with having to discuss things with the other half. I do a lot of childcare for the kids so couldn't just go out whenever I wanted in case I was needed.

It does seem odd to me the amount of times you read that and people normally respond along the lines of "it is about respect..." I think mostly it is about being fair though and I guess that is what being in a relationship is about (my wife probably wishes I would take some of this advice on board though!).

It's a meaningless acronym "FFS" - and it's the internet. Be prepared to take and give the mickey*. Please, let's not start another useless argument...it is getting really tiresome when people don't apply a bit of wit to the stuff they post. Anyway, calm down...peace and love in the café right?

*politeness rules sometimes.

I have no choice other than Lie & Lie & Lie again to 'her indoors'.
She does not/will not or ever will appreciate my passion for Cycling - music or any other sports apart from Rugby League.
I cannot make her see why a £2k guitar or bike is better IMO than a £200 model of the same.
All of my hobbies etc are unfortunately quite expensive in as much as I like to get the best I can (not the best/most expensive a available to man).
So - my £2.5k carbon bike (£1500 in sale) cost £500 as far as she knows - & so it goes "yeah - had that for ages/years love" - "no it's not new" etc - everything is 1/4 of the £ price I paid & everything is delivered by stealth & to a military time slot.
It's this or face the Wrath of Sabrina the middle aged witch.
She lies in wait in darkened corners all scales, pointy tail & forked tongue, waiting to eschew fire & brimstone in my general direction should she even sniff a new hobby purchase.
God only knows how I will get round my planned N+1 ??
Leave ??
No !!
Beautiful 2 1/2 yr old baby girl I want to see grow up !!
As the Metallica track proclaims.

Sad.
But True.

My better half is known to most the websites that I visit as TSMB (An initialism) - The Sainted Mrs Bailey :smooch:

My wife absolutely despises the sort of men who use that acronym or behave like that in the real world. More than that though, she hates the sort of man who uses the phrase 'on a promise', particularly those who seem happy in saying it.

I think it's about having joint priorities. If I want to buy a new bike I just need to explain why it's more important than say a holiday. I'm an adult and I'm trusted to make reasonable decisions hence I bought a £2000 bike which is a lot to spend on a bike. It's not the most expensive bike in the world, it's not even close to the most expensive bike I could afford at the time but it was the bike I wanted to fulfill a specific purpose. This was understood and so two weeks on a Greek island took a year off.

When I do wreck a wheel or buy a job lot of innertubes I do sometimes struggle to get across that this is my version of buying a season ticket though.
