Synchant Pass or NCN 5?

Looking at a route from Manchester to Bangor and i'm a bit stuck about which way to go at Conway. Can anyone comment on the state of the NCN 5 cycleway around the headland? Considering the miles i'll be doing I want to avoid the Synchant Sychnant Pass if there is an adequate alternative. Thanks.

Most routes to avoid the pass involve steep climbs and the views from the Sychnant Pass are superb. I'll have a look at the NCN 5 cycleway when I'm up there again.

I don't think there's a problem going through Conwy and then picking up the cycle path next to the A55. It's the bit around Llanfairfechan that's a bit grim (but still perfectly doable.)
Sychnant is a fantastic climb though. The run down into Penmaenmawr is superb

Hi, No problem with NCN5 follow it from Conwy Quay with a new section across the Conwy Morfa. its a really nice route all the way. There are no sections that take you onto the A55. I use the route regularly from home near Conwy to Bangor, if I can be of anymore help let me know

John

NCN5 takes you over the A55 with a new bridge. The cyclists I met in Pensarn had ridden it that morning without any problems. I much prefer the Pass, as the run down into Pen is superb, especially on a sunny day, but I was doing it in a Subaru Impreza!

Oh cheers for that.

I used the pass on the way to Holyhead and NCN5 on the way back to Manchester that evening. Knackered I was. :tired:
