Normally after I build a PC I don't need to do anything to it for ages and so I completely forget which components I used to build it!
If I then want to upgrade anything later, I usually end up on my knees, holding a torch, with the side panel of the computer removed, peering into the guts of the thing with a furrowed brow trying to see exactly what I put into the damn thing in the first place!

You don't need the pro version - the freeware one works just fine.
Courtesy of that little app, I now know that I have two spare memory slots and that I need to buy DDR1 PC3200 memory. All discovered without a torch, incoherent muttering and an exclamation of "oh blast, damn, bugger it!" when I drop my stub of a pencil into some inaccessible corner of the PC case while trying to write down info while on my hands and knees ...
