[soapbox]Well I don't particulary hate peds but I do hope they learn by our "encounters".

Seems like im trying to teach three quarters of London.

Most of the time they are ok but sometimes just sometimes they will want to risk their lives to save a few seconds. Now where have I heard that before?

Now this is where an airhorn comes in handy.

Because one day they may not walk in front of a poor innocent cyclist but some moton and they won't be so lucky.

I've seen enough peds lying in the road after incidents and it is not a very nice sight. Also I noticed there is an incident sign along my commute with an incident like this (recently) and normally the moton is the innocent one who gets caught up in this.

I truly belive there is lack of education in how to cross the road safely.
Have you ever watched a ped when they cross the road?
They normally check once and that's it.[/soapbox]

We've lost the green cross code - something that should be engrained in society.

Perhaps we should start our own instructional "Think" videos on this sort of stuff?

Had an interesting encounter with a ped on the way home tonite. You may appreciate this:

He walks out in front of me, so I skid to a halt. He stops but apologises, so I have to get started again (on an uphill incline :becool:). I couldnt help but point to the adjacent A-Road and ask "Would you cross that road without looking!?" He replies "Er, probably. Yeah". The best I could come back with was. "Have a nice life, while it lasts" But I dont know if he caught the last bit.

Suffice to say. Dont worry. These peds wont last long if they carry on like that.
You should be prepared to slow down and stop if a pedestrian steps out in front of you.
I see no reason to berate the pedestrian.

Depends how obvious it is that they are going to cross imo. Would be highly annoying for all to constantly slow and accelerate, LOL:laugh:

Joke post.Easier said than done sometimes. Its about time people took responsibility in this country.Try going to other countries if you need examples of better road behaviour all round and how it should be done.Japan being a prime example.

Hmmmm. That would, in practice, mean walking everywhere pushing your bike. Or car.

Sorry but peds do take chances.I think they underestimate bikes as well.Felt bad the other week when I was behind a ped on one of my 4am commutes and he stepped into the road without looking.I didnt blow the horn but said something and he jumped out of his skin.He actually said sorry but I was sorry for making him jump like that. What struck me was his eyes were all red.Perhaps he was knackered.

Night shifts must do that to you...

I'll have to dig out my clip of the ped that nearly ran right out in front of me the other week

Indeed I was. As soon as I saw him, I was prepared to stop (I put my hands on the brake levers, ready to stop if he indeed stepped out without looking).

I wouldnt get anywhere if I had to slow for every pedestrian that "might" step out in front of me.

Besides, I didn't swear at all and asked him a perfect valid question. :becool:

It's not always that easy though is it?

Oops did swear yesterday morning, but it happens.Tough.

Wev'e got to stop pampering these people. They should be able to think for themselves.Yes that seems to be a good time to cross or perhaps not/or shall we just bolt across the road and sod everyone else?

Of course I try to be prepared because hitting a ped is not my idea of fun.
