Dave, I'm on my own.
As I'm out at work during breakfast/lunch time, I only eat one meal a day at home.
Still, all dishes and cat bowls are washed and put away every evening before bed time.
This is one of my house rules: when you're on your own is easy to slip into untidiness, you need house rules too! ^_^

Dave I think you have just been given a bit of a bollocking.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We had a work top dishwasher back in the 60s. Bang the y-split hose onto the hot and cold taps, aim the drain hose into the sink, put some soap powder in, and plugin/switch on. Very mod con. I have the idea one had to manually work the phases.
Never seen one since leaving home.
PS Were those flat surfaces in a kitchen even called 'work tops'?

Just to clarify...... I wipe/clean off dishes after eating so there is no food or 'gunge' on them. But wash in hot soap water when I have a few cups, plate, bowls etc.

Looking at them and looking at some comments I would suggest that anyone getting one checks their dinner plates will fit before buying one

It seems to be a common complain that some only have room vertically inside for the smaller type of plates

If you do that, you might as well wash them too, simultaneously so to say

Correct.

You misunderstand.
eg, I have just finished a meal. A bowl of corned beef hash from the freezer, made by moi. I therefore have 1 plastic container, 1 bowl and 1 spoon. I am not going to run a bowl of hot water just for them. Waste of money and bad for the planet. I wipe them out with kitchen roll and leave them till I have a few more items..... tomorrow or the next day.

I get home from work, and see everyone else's pots in the sink from breakfast onwards. Boils my wee wee.

when I was at work folk often just to leave their cups in the sink hoping some other poor sod or the cleaner would wash them and there were so many pots in the sink you couldn’t wash your dinner plate. So getting peed off with this I put all the dirty pots in the bin so I could wash my stuff.
Before anyone noticed the cleaner came thought all pots had been chucked away so they put them in the rubbish.🤣🤣🤣
As no one could make a drink I wasn’t very popular but when new pots were acquired people did wash up more often for a bit.

I wash my dishes under running hot water, continental style, because I'm ... err ... continental.
Money well spent in aid of good hygiene habits ^_^

I would have thought the energy to produce the paper for kitchen roll would be greater than what it is for a bowl of hot water.
