Sad, but ninety one not a bad innings.
RIP, at five beats to the bar!

Sad news. Another part of my youth goes. Take 5 was the first jazz track that I heard, and of course it was used on many sound tracks for films and adverts.

Take Five was a classic track but was composed by Paul Desmond who was the sax player with Dave Brubeck.

True, but the name of the track is synonomous with his Brubeck's eponomous Quartet. Paul Desmond was an odd character, quite a wit whose love of Ciggs killed him before his love of Whiskey.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
...and doing a bit of reading it was the only track on the album not written by Brubeck. I must dig out our copy - I can't remember which format we've got it on.

Sounds terrible

"Desmond's fondness for scotch was well known. So in early 1976 when a physical examination showed lung cancer, he was ironically pleased that his liver was fine. "Pristine, perfect. One of the great livers of our time. Awash in Dewars and full of health."
