and the bikes as well, if I have someone wait patiently to go by I now make the assumption that one of the cars behind them will execute a close pass. It's almost like they want to show how easily they could have passed me before going on, as you describe, to hover behind the driver they deemed to slow/hesitant.
Oh, but that's a given. I was just amused by the way he tried to 'punish' me, only to nearly end up rear-ending me as I slowed for a speed-limit change.

Here's a punishment pass I got the other week - the driver/registered owner, I'm not sure which, made some comments which he/she has now deleted.

thats mad overtaking, makes you wander what peoples problem is. what was his excuse when he commented?

you would think that another couple of seconds wouldnt hurt when they have an accelerater pedal to use rather than good old leg power.

especially going into a thirty.

good pace by the way!

Feel your pain, nearly got hit by an old codger who had no depth perception this morning as we were both getting out of a left hand turn. Clipped my right knee.

If you click on Deda's profile, it still shows his last two and only comments where he/she admits to wanting to teach me a lesson. It's not quite as funny as the comments from what I assume are the driver and friends on this video:

Thanks on the pace!! Nothing special really - fast recumbent plus downhill makes speed easy.

I had a bus force me against the kerb at a pinch point then stop 2 metres further up to let passengers off his bus! I used several choice phrases to describe him and his family lineage as I passed him.

It was a totally unnecessary overtake. If he'd just given me 2 seconds I would have been through the pinch point and on my way.

If he had to stop anyway why the hell did he do that?

Answers on a postcard to the usual address...................................

Another user who called the driver a "Stupid **** who should lose her licence", or something to roughly that effect. Thought it was a bit OTT myself.

The driver in my clip (the OP) wasnt performing a punishment overtake. I think he was travelling faster than the other two cars, didnt slow and decided to make for the gap.

The reason I say this was a close one is not because the driver passed close to me. I really did think for a second that they were going to hit each other. I know that if that were to happen, I did not want to be in that position!

That said, I'm still happy for this thread to go whatever direction it goes.

Yeah, I saw that. I'd much rather they passed with clearance to me, even if they hit the oncoming car. Selfish, I know, but it's not my fault and I don't want to be involved. Riding a recumbent is extra good at getting loads of space.

when I was out this morning on our local A road a car decided to reverse out of a drive, they dithered a bit so I'm assuming they must have seen me and then decided to go for it. I was going probably around 20mph and didnt have time to brake so had to go on the wrong side of the road to "overtake" them so as not to hit them.

They had straightened out as I was alongside them and then decided to accelerate off, leaving me on the wrong side of the road not able to pull back into the left hand lane

Thankfully it was 6am and there were no cars in front or behind me
