Bloody hell!! Just been taken out by a bloke in a people carried with 1 child in!! Coming down bus lane doing about 20mph, car waiting to turn across traffic goes when flashed by person in other lane. Decides when his car is covering the bus lane that he shouldn't have gone as I was coming down. Instead of moving, he breaks and stops letting me go full on into his passenger door!!!

Bike is ok, and I'm ok. More p*ssed off than anything! He did stop to see if I was ok but I didn't take any details (I know, my fault). I managed to get his reg but I guess there is no point in reporting.

Not had any sort of incident since starting to commute on bike in March. Now this is twice in a week!! Starting to lose my faith in drivers/peds!

Yes report it! Then there is a record if he does anything stupid again. Also get your bike checked there might be something you have missed!

Glad you are ok, crashes do tend to shake you up.

I was shaken up at the time. It was only a mile into a 7 mile commute so had plenty of time to calm down before getting to work.

Just checked the reg on internet and I think I must have written the number down wrong. Think I will just have to pass this one off as experience.

Glad to hear you're ok, don't let it put you off, sometimes these things tend to happen in clusters, about 9 years ago, I had 3 cars go into my new car in the space of 3 weeks, not had an accident since.

BTW how do you check a car on the internet ?

I had a collision exactly like this a couple of years ago. Unfortunately we do need to be constantly aware of the signs of this happening in our path, like looking out for gaps appearing in slow moving traffic and then slowing and covering the brakes in readiness. Also look for junctions and side streets or parking bays where people may want to turn into and be extra cautious there.

Also if you look at the solid white lines of the bus lanes, these become hatched where people are allowed to turn into the lane. Learn to look out for all these little signs, be prepared to slow down and you will find that the dangers of this happening to you again will diminish significantly.

Glad you're okay though, how is the bike?

I'll carry on cycling. Would take more than that to put me off and make me go back to public transport!

I checked on www.mycarcheck.com. You put the full reg in and it tells you what the make and model of the car is.

Bike is ok. His door now has a nice scrape and dent in the side, oh well .

It's funny cause I'm always quite careful at this junction and have seen it happen before to other people. I covered the breaks and had slowed from about 30mph to 20mph. It's almost as if I was expecting it in a funny sort of way.

Bike impacting into a car at 20mph... I'd be quite suprised if there's no damage to the bike (even if it's not immediately obvious).

I would really recommend taking it to a shop and getting it closely looked over. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll probably report it on my way home tonight.

With regards to my bike, I'll get it checked over this weekend.

Sounds nasty, AB. Hope you're back on the bike soon.

You need to wear a Blades away shirt for hi-viz!...last season's lime green and the fluoro-orange one from the season before!

:biggrin::biggrin: Like the idea. It wasn't that bad really. I suppose it could have been a lot worse.
