Had 4 days away in France and Belgium last week. Nice relaxing break whilst grandchildren are away.
Hotel just outside Lille was a two minute walk from a very efficient tram service to city centre and just a few miles from Roubaix. Managed a short (very urban) ride to the famous velodrome but couldn't find any cobbles. A side gate was open so I sneaked in to have a gander and take a photo, all very relaxed
En route to Antwerp a couple of days later we had half a day in Ghent. Used the park and ride, very efficient and cheap. The city centre was buzzing, people, bikes, cars, taxis, buses and trams ALL using the same space. No honking of horns, no shouty people, cars and bikes crossing tram lines, following tramlines it was great to see.
Went out yesterday for a ride, only got about a mile before my first angry close pass.
Welcome home.
