Not from my commute today, but something I did in my car a while ago…..

Joining the main road from a junction, where the speed limit is 30mph, a bus was rattling along, clearly in excess of the sped limit. I pulled out as I judged that I had enough time to make the manoeuvre and accelerate to 30mph. I did, but as the bus was going a lot faster, it was soon on my tail and flashing its lights. Result was that the bus ended up travelling at 20mph. There’s not much will get past a Land Rover Disco 4 - enough power under the bonnet to give a fair turn of speed if the bus wanted to play silly buggers and overtake. It didn’t, but it was nice to know.

I miss that car.

Nearly got wiped out by a retractable dog lead yesterday.

I was on a shared use ex railway line type thing under the trees in dappled light. Saw the dog, saw the lady, didn't see the cord until the last second. Thankfully spotted it at the last moment and nailed the brakes and stopped just as I became entangled. Disks did their job

This old thing is still going strong, treated it to new wheels, tyres and inner tubes early in the year so it should be good for more abuse

Quite a quiet but busy commute for me this morning. Oh and did I mention that bl00dy headwind.

That must have been some headwind to affect you on the train. ^_^.

I sympathise, headwinds are my nemesis. I can deal with most climbs but a block headwind is loathsome. I'll add I don't commute by bike or ever did so any wind be it from any direction is on a "pleasure" ride so I guess I have alternatives like bailing or going a different way. If you commute to work not so many options.

Long way home tonight; to the other side of the city then back in along the tow path with a bit of dangling / general stretching at the monkey bars (yesterday was rings day).

The highlight was stopping for fish at the chippy (yes, again!). Said establishment and the local shop are on bit of a bend on the main road, complete with double-yellows. There's parking on side roads but that would require the dragging of a lazy, car-dependent corpse all of 50yd or more so people frequently park on the road outside; often causing a fair tailback.

Today some such muppet evidently decided they wanted some chips, leaving the shop just before I did. It was tough for me to get out onto the road thanks to their parking and the traffic backing up either side; this delay unfortunately meaning I had to spend a fair time with the Brompton parked directly across the front of their vehicle - entirely coincidentally preventing it from pulling away - until all the traffic had cleared. And a bit longer. All while madam orange and her trout-faced offspring sat inert, glaring at me from inside their little metal bellend box.

This has made me happier than it probably should have; now I'm off down the road to gannet the set of discarded bathroom scales I passed on the way home before the inevitable histamine wave kicks in

Unfortunately it was on route to the train, the train had a massive tailwind  I was left thinking I should have got up early and cycled the 57miles to the office. It definitely would have been a train back job though :okay:

cold start, not much traffic again, nice easy ride into work five days off from riding and nice headwind welcoming me back glad to be back in the saddle. Roll on June we had a taster of weather last week I want more.
