Tales from today's commute....

Google was telling fibs, the all night and all day rain was not in attendance. Damp under tyre and rather muggy on the way in. It did try to spit at one point. Yup, high schools back, but fortunately, no bad mums parking on the double yellow/in the cycle lane this morning (actually a cycle lane with double reds, but the mums don't care).

I didn't check out Google Weather but other weather sites were saying similar for here. It was supposed to culminate in a thunder storm around 6-7pm, Its been beautiful all evening though. Drivers were wanting to take liberties in certain places though so I was glad it was dry. I had one try to squeeze by just before a 20mph zone, despite its age its pretty well designed, so there wasnt a real gap and surprise, surprise I catch up the driver ahead before the end of the 20mph/ one-way section. So when the road widened up to two-way (empty buslane contraflow at first before a regular two-way) and 30mph, they were sheepish to overtake and waited nearly 400m to the 40mph zone.

out on the flat road bike today went out on it the weekend seem to becoming additcted to its comfort, slower than my road bike but who cares, nice slow journey in. No point rushing in due to all the temporary traffic lights at the moment. Not sure if its just me thats noticed always seems to be the same roads and in the same areas of that road they do the work.

Tuesday 2nd

I had to back track on a section of my ‘alternative’ (ie; daylight) commute

This Manitou telehandler was a lot bigger than me! ^_^

I’d come through NewLands Woods (heading along the ‘dismantled railway’ on Geograph map), from ‘Stanley Ferry’ (where the River Calder is crossed, via 2 aqueducts, by the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal)

I was just a few dozen yards past the old stable block

Nice ride in yesterday morning, breezy but not too bad, first ride with the new (tubeless) tyres, and I was just over 1mph faster than my previous best of the year.

Ride home on the other had, the wind had seriously picked up during the day, and I was getting buffeted both from the side and the front, all the way home. Hard work.

And then within the last mile before home, a close pass, where somebody overtook me with oncoming traffic. Not sure they gave me 1.5m, but even so they only had inches clear to the car coming the other way. Reported to Operation Snap.

On the way back from town today, nearly sidewhacked by a lass pulling our from a parked position on the side of the road without indicating.
As the driver window was open, I took the opportunity of loudly yelling 'SIGNAL' at her which was satisfying - ! ^_^
As I heard her talking and the only person in the car, I aslo inferred she was probably on speakerphone which obviously didn't help her concentration.

First puncture for a while on my way on this morning. Only a mile from home but happened in a nice picturesque place with a convenient table to swap the tube over.

Typically it was sunny all day but greyed over for the commute, but with it being forecast wet tomorrow I wanted to extend it. I thought about extending it at the south of the train but the cold windy weather and the start rush hour convinced me to extend it at the northern end. I had hoped the sun would have came out like forecast but no, there was even very slight moisture in the air. It felt like it had warmed up a degree or two though. Nothing much to report traffic wise, it was a bit busy as I was earlier than thought and caught more than half of the rush hour but all passes were wide. Maybe some ill advised straight into oncoming traffic but wide enough. Occasionally though I got the extra cautious driver who wouldn't even overtake when it was safe!
