I find getting all sweary doesn't work, so a simple 'too close' and using hands had an effect. I could have mentioned his speed, way over 30 mph, only to sit in traffic 30 seconds later. I was expecting to be told to 'go forth' but I was surprised he apologised. Hopefully he will learn. It was silly close and the draft off the car confirmed that.

Absolutely - totally agree that the calm, rational approach is likely better in most situations.. however in the immediate moments after someone has nearly ended my life in the name of their own convenience / stupidity I often struggle to keep a lid on my disgust.

I do lose it at times but you just end up in a shouting match, so being relatively calm gives you the upper hand. Sometimes they haven't a clue... I usually shout 'Oi' or 'stay there'. The village of Ladybarn, or 'sheetville' as I call it, is pretty bad for DGAF driving and pull outs by a certain set of drivers - no point in engaging at all.

I lost it once with some guy that leant on his horn - I was in stop start traffic, in primary, and my crime was being in front of him, like the rest of the queue. I may have flipped the bird, which then resulted in a heated argument and him threattening to run me over. I diffused it by shouting 'I've got your reg' - he panicked and shot off (I then got his reg as I was fibbing). I pedalled straight off to the police station nearby. The police took note, but couldn't find any CCTV. They did say it would go against the record, as the vehicle was known to them - so be very careful who you pick fights with, this guy was a known nutter.

I had a retirement do for someone in my team tonight so I was a bit later than usual. I mostly timed it right though. The train I got on was over half an hour late to schedule but I was only waiting around 5mins. The train missed out every station but mine too. It did mean the station was chaos with folk getting picked up by cars and they were parked all over the place. Getting the later train meant I was in that twilight period at the far end, just before lights get effective. It was mostly quiet though and what drivers were polite. Untill I went to pass a minor road though. Its well designed as is the main road so folk can't shoot out, so when a cars that had been sat on the minor road to maybe fiddle with something pulled out on me, he couldn't do so at speed, realised his mistake, and apologised. Oh and I forgot to say I missed the rain too 🙂
