Tales from today's commute....

Greasy and humid out, as above trying to rain but didn't.

Last night I met two different pairs of mounted police officers on the off-road section. I've met a pair on a few occasions but I think this was a first to meet two on the same ride. They're really quite big when you're passing on a 6' cycle lane, although I'm less sure how useful they'd be chasing scrotes through the underbrush.

slightly damp, very humid, and a strong breeze certainly made it harder to ride in, though I managed to escape it somehow actually raining on me, which was a plus. but the roads were covered in that weird soapy grime thing that happens when its not rained for ages, and spent fair bit of my time avoiding the worst puddles.

however whilst the roads themselves seem marginally quiet, today was one of those avoid people flinging doors open of parked cars, avoid people riding on pavements (not shared cycle actual footpath) who just rode across the head of a junction just as you had to stop, dogs off leads on shared paths, people walking in the road !?! when the pavement was just 2 feet away, cars pulling out of driveways.

all of which somehow were my fault based on the reactions I was getting from people, oh well soon be a long weekend

A pleasant if knackered ride home encompassing a go on the pullup machine, a little on the rings, a trip to the shops, a bit of trimming and foraging and a few nice interactions with folks

Humid and threatening to rain but no such luck.

I just about dodged the rain on the way to the train station this morning, starting just as I got there. It rained for the whole train journey so I extended my ticket to alight closer to my work. So a shortened cycle commute this morning. Thankfully it was just spitting rather then full on rain. I could have cycled easy, I was just being a lazy bugger.

Weather's looking clear now but more rain incoming by the looks of things.

The thunder and rain woke me up this morning and it looks like it is set for the day so im glad i have access to the car today , I had to nip out earlier and the water was running down the roads and a lot of leaves on the ground too .

Heavy showers about, yesterday and today, but not while I was riding.

Last day of the quiet roads, and last day on my current bike. It's ~18 years old ~35k of riding nearly all commuting in every weather and it's running out of life. The frame is original, and the handlebars, but very little else has survived un-replaced. Except the Rohloff hub of course. That had a major service in 2020 and when I get back from hols end of next week it's going to be taken out of this bike, and sent off to be built into a new one - superficially very similar - 'Gravel' rather than 'Sports Tour' and the ultimate in low maintenance: belt drive and hydraulic disk brakes, neither of which I could afford at the time.

Really looking forward to riding the new machine, but sad at the passing of the old. It's ridden very well recently too, just to let me know how good it is. I'll be on the SS in the rain while the new one is built, and I'm not looking forward to that.
