Predecessor? It's been there since the 1850s, it's Bramall Lane.

D'oh- only looked at location underneath! Never clicked on Avatar

Been to Bramall Lane a few times Still had big terrace 1st time I went.

Never went when it only had 3 sides, but it was a shame to see Cricket Pavilion eventually demolished

Shame the problems club have had with its ownership in recent times

its been half term this week which has been nice, less traffic for a start and I dont know if its been the well publicised police operation lately but lots of vehicles have been giving me so much room Im almost convinced some of them had something to hide...weathers been pretty good too following last week, in fact today was almost back to summer temps, I was boiling.

weirdly started today with sugarbeet factory smell I havent smelt since I was a kid staying at my grandparents, apparently there was an inversion layer and atmospherics that had transported the smell all the way from Bury St Edmunds...or maybe it was just a neighbour burning some rubbish

Spent half the time on the train wishing I'd commuted to a further train, the other half catching my head as I was about to drift off. So it was maybe a wise decision in the end to just cycle the 0.75mile to the nearest station.

When I got off the far end the rush hour traffic actually triggered me to wake up and I felt sustainably spinny with the little wind resistance, maybe I should have cycled further after all!

Passed plenty of Ninjas and e motorbikes. Thankfully the last ninja was with his mate who had a light and I gave way to, as I never saw the ninja until I was directly behind him. His electric motorbike did have lots of reflectives. He was rather timid on the unlit cycle path without lights although his mate was less so,

New Steed. All ready for a winter on Manchester's roads. Belt drive, disc brakes and my original hubgear rebuilt into this new frame. Aim is ultralow maintenance, annual change the oil and occasional take the worst of the mud off should be all that's needed. M+ tyres so hopefully long lasting there too. Feels great fun to ride on the few miles I've done getting her home. Responsive and comfortable.

I'm not trying to be funny, but that doesn't look like Manchester.

Strangely enough no. Stanforth are based in Brighton (Hove) so I nipped down to fit it, and came back up on the train. Other than the chaos of Euston's failed signals, and trying to navigate london it all went smoothly.

Great fun to ride! Really responsive. No faster on my normal commute than previously, but more fun.

Sadly the kids are back at school today.
Last week I rode a stetch of dual carriageway bypassing town I live in and in its 0.4 miles never saw another vehicle. Today, both lanes of the dual carriageway were full of vehicles queuing for its full length.

mind you, it does a lot for my smugness factor as I ride merrily on my way along the whole length of the queue.

A big shout out today to the Street sweepers doing sterling jobs sweeping up all the leaves and branches from the pavements and cycle lanes.

* Irrelevant Musing
if we were ever to re-join the EU and had to accept the Euro, would future street sweepers be doing a Euro job rather than a sterling one?

Cold and bright, paying careful attention to attire and settling on LS base layer, incongruously large gloves, merino buff and for the first time a merino skullcap that, along with most of the rest of the stuff was scored from the great CRC corpse-picking of 2024.

All black and grey with the exception of my tan trousers, I went with a pair of round mirrored glasses to complete the impromptu goth aesthetic..

A nice ride in at a decent temperature once my core had warmed up enough to tolerate the wind chill and thankfully extremities remained tolerably warm. As usual slightly concerned about my ability to remain warm as the temperatures drop further; as they doubtless have a fair way to go beyond the 7-8 degrees slated this morning.

Few dickheads and certainly nothing existentially problematic; sausages get 6.5/10 due to a chronic lack of crispness… although filled a hole.

An amusing one from my ride yesterday. Early Sunday morning, I'm on main road, car in side road decided as road was quiet he would ignore red light- he hadn't seen me passing. He stopped across the pedestrian crossing bit of junction - ie in front of red light stop line.

i spoke to him and suggested he reverse back. He said no, he would just sit there until lights changed to green.
I said fair enough. Got off my bike and stat on nearby bench for a drink and a snack. He sat there for over 5 minutes because lights never changed...why? Because they worked on a sensor in road and he was beyond it. No cars came up the road he was coming from.

if only the idiot had not been so stubborn as to refuse to back up he would have been away earlier

Anyway, I left him still stopped at lights waiting forlornly for them to change when I got back on my ride

Nippy this morning. No frost on the cars at home, but a mile further on, frost. Didn't push any corners just in case. Although we are above freezing this week, I will check the ice wheels are ready to roll. Fortunately it's going to be dry !

Ah, that makes sense. Certainly worth the journey bay the looks of things...
