On off mizzle on the way in, not enough to bother with waterproofs. Took me a while to chase down a lady on an electric hybrid this morning. Caught her up at the stiles in the country park at Reddish Vale, but she whizzed up the climb, and I only just caught her at the next one. By the time I was through she'd whizzed off up the next hill. I then take a slightly longer traffic free route through Reddish before jointing the Floop. Took my 2 miles to drag her in just before Fallowfield as the path was finally flat.

E-bikes can't half shift

I got off the train right in the middle of the peak hour and with the Crescent Bridge roundabout road works the only thing moving was a bike!

I made a bit of a mistake down the road when things were flowing again and let my self get bullied into a weaker secondary position, which left me open to an unnecessary overtake WVM. At least he stopped at the Red Light unlike the driver 2mins earlier.

My Radar says he was going 55mph in a 30mph zone so there was no way they were stopping!

fairly standard ride in, though my bike feels like it weighs a ton carrying a laptop, half of it I think is rubbing rear brakes which the weight shift on one side upsets and I cant really fix

but ride home, first in post clock change rush hour, since last week was half term when roads were quieter, that was an experience, firstly my front camera stopped working, as it turned out due to user error switching the wrong switches the wrong way, but when its dark you cant really troubleshoot it, so it was kaput for the ride. And of course it would have been the perfect day to have a front camera.

though actually it was on the cycle paths first, surprisingly since this time of year you have to be keen imo to want to cycle, but I was encountering what felt like a bunch of newbies on their ebikes, who could obviously go quicker than me, but the reason I was being cautious and slightly slower is the paths are wet, damp, covered in leaf mulch now and thats slippy as hell, but they were all trying to overtake me in really narrow bits with terrible sight lines ahead and there are pedestrians, and joggers (at least they had lights ) but like seriously why the rush just wait till theres space to make a safer pass if you really are that much quicker than me.

then it was on to the road, and had a taxi minibus pull alongside me in a turn left only lane at a set of traffic lights, who of course decided that meant overtake the cyclist and go straight on lane. without front camera I cant report it to the police, but Ill certainly drop the taxi firm a note about it.

and then I had an audi just a little further on, theyre already committed to an overtake and upto at least in line with my back pedal stroke, and yeah it was going to be close pass, but arguably no worse than a few had already given me, but they then slammed on the brakes and aborted.

ok thats nice, but now im concerned because what were they doing to be halfway through an overtake and then suddenly abort like that, were they on the phone, did they just misjudge the gap that badly, what are they doing next...

in the end they sat patiently behind me till I could escape into a bus lane, but that was concerning for a bit, and then Im on my least favourite roundabout at night, I can ride it hundreds of times in daylight and not be concerned, yet at night, and maybe because its happened far too often for close comfort, Im always worried about drivers just pulling out into me, and again without a front camera to record it.

Damp roads and darkish on the way in. The sun is out now. Still fairly warm although last two mornings have been a little damper than was forecast earlier this week. Leaf mulch is starting to fill up in the mudguards, so a hose off is due. Traffic has been a bit mental this week, especially on the way home - filtering may have involved an empty pavement at one point due to badly parked cars and narrow roads.

Had a very close nasty pass on the A38 at Almondsbury this morning, I had left home too late to take the longer route avoiding this road as it is festooned with roadworks to construct a separated cycle lane.

The van driver behind the close-passer probably saw what had happened and my outflung arm gesture, so he gave me plenty of space and a friendly bip-bip & a wave, seemed like he may have been someone I know.

I then wondered if he was trying to suggest I should have been on the new cycle lane - all 200 yards of it - which is still very much under construction with long sections fenced off and dug up. It would involve crossing the road about eight times on my way in, for about 200yds of lane each time. When it is finished I will certainly use it, just hope it is not taken up for parking by residents.

Having good side-lights gives me confidence on roundabouts in the dark. I have "monkeylights" on my front wheel which are ridiculously eye-catching (sadly no longer available) and a dinky helmet light which shines where I look, also the rear lights have good side visibility. Hope you can suss out the camera alright.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Got hammered for overtime last night 3 pm start and 2 am finish, had to stop about half way back under a bus stop to put the wet weather gear on as it was absolutely hammering it down .
Had breakfast when I got home as I was hungry getting to bed at 3.47 am then up at 8.30 to take Mrs ck to a hospital appointment.
For some reason my knee is really hurting making stairs hurt and looking like similar overtime the rest of the week so I will be in the car as I'm knackered.

My morning ride brought the usual people who believe the Road Traffic Act does not apply to them. From the person on an electric bike who gave me a torrent of abuse for....stopping at a red light on crossroads, to the motorists who when they see the lights changing from green to amber think that means accelerate through the stop light.

However, today's prize goes to the seemingly respectable looking lady on the electric bike that was designed to carry kids behind her. [There were no kids on bike and it was about 0845, so I assume she had dropped kids off at school.] She was going opposite way to me. I was stopped at pedestrian crossing on a red light whilst pedestrians crossed. She for some reason started to shout at last pedestrian crossing the road to get off the road. He was crossing on a green man! Idiots like that unfortunately get all of us cyclists a bad name.
Said pedestrian just stopped, looked at her rather puzzled at why she was shouting at him, then told her to "Foxtrot Oscar Charlie Kile" Off and carried on his way.

I was in London yesterday and found myself getting all nostalgic for the old Bikeradar commute forum circa 2010. Saw a guy on a Bianchio Oltre (I think) with carbon wheels outside Euston, I was Birmingham based at back then so rode alone every day, I think I need to get a Brompton so I can join in again.

Just heavy legs this morning, even new bike joy doesn't make that go away. Met a city councilor at the new cyclops junction (see upthread) I wasn't convinced it is "better than before" but at least he was out riding.

Not convinced it's better - you do have to be very careful pulling onto the cycleway (from East or West) because the students just don't stop on the North South lanes even if the lights say otherwise. It's slightly better for nipping across the road in the morning - with traffic as it is, it's easy slip across as before. Seem less 'waiting' but you've got to keep your wits about you due to other cyclists just thinking it's a free for all.
