I just read that. Cracking book. How's the pub...worth a trip?
The pub is interesting but not what it was 50 years ago. It's been extended and is very commercialised now.

Yes it is worth a trip. It gets very busy in the summer as you would expect. It has a huge dining area so it can accommodate the large numbers for food. It is worth a visit for a meal if you are on your way to the Cornish coast. They even have their own museum that features the Daphne du Maurier link. You can buy her other novels there as you enjoyed the book.

It is famously haunted. It was featured on the TV series "Most Haunted" (programme that investigated paranormal goings on in old houses, castles, etc.) and was the only episode, that I saw, that the presenters got seriously spooked! About 10 years ago, returning from a holiday in Falmouth I booked by phone a night there as a surprise for Mrs Lozz. The receptionist asked if I wanted a "haunted room". Thinking that the haunted rooms were a touristy themed feature, I asked if a haunted room was more expensive. The reply was no, they are cheaper!

For me, the best time to visit is in the winter. Not as busy. They have a huge roaring log fire in the lounge that just adds to the atmosphere (remember you are high up on Bodmin Moor). Stay overnight and you can have a choice of "haunted" or "not haunted".
