How does the sizing come up on the Craghoppers? For some reason there seems to be a lot of places selling 32" long at £20. I tend to go for a 34" waist on the basis that if they're a little too big I can tighten my belt, but may risk the 32" if they're 'vanity sized'^_^
I'd be careful, for some reason they sizing on the stretch Kiwis are over par. I reckon you need to go up a size (2 inches) from what you would normally wear. Makes things a bit hit and miss when buying online. I've just ordered a pair of 36 inch but I am wondering if they will be big enough, I'm normally a 34. Keep your eyes on the cc classifieds!

The lengths are about right though. The pair I bought last year are 40 regular, they are a touch loose and need a belt. I went to field and trek to try to get some more because I liked them so much but the sizings were all over the place! Hopefully they have sorted it out since then. It was a year ago.

Each waist size comes in short, medium and long leg length. I wear the 36" waist short as this equates to a 29" inside leg.

+1 Craghopper kiwis, but with a pair of endura click fast cycle liner shorts underneath. These can then be clicked into my cycling shorts or 3/4's when a more relaxed/cycling positive look is called for.

i live in Craghopper kiwis most of the time. Dont get the zip offs and they look a little neater. Not cycled in them but suspect they will be quite cool, they dry out very quickly. Worn them summer and winter no problems. Sizing wise they seem to be fairly accurate in waist and leg, but i tend to get waist +1 as they come with a belt. think go outdoors have a sale on soon (again), check their website.

Why not? That's what everyone did before these new fangled fabrics came along.

Fair point^_^ I cycled to my meeting last Friday (which had prompted me to ask the question in the first place) in jeans and they weren't as uncomfortable as I'd remembered them being. The eather was suitable (cool and dry) which helped but it was a 15 mile round trip, so a reasonable test.

Thanks to all, I'll be looking at the Craghoppers and similar things as and when I get chance.

I'll add my +1 to Craghopper Kiwi's, they are my trouser of choice for short rides under 5 miles or so as they don't chafe, dry relatively quickly and a comfortable. Above that I prefer lycra for the breathability and comfort.

If I know I won't be able to change, I just ride in normal clothes (trousers tucked into socks) and take it a little slower to avoid getting too sweaty. I have a pair of Rainlegs for if I have to ride in civvies in the rain.

I do have a pair of these, though:

They're very comfortable both on and off the bike, and look good too, but they aren't especially hard wearing in the crotch area, which you might think would be a requirement of such a garment.

74catcarlton.jpg It's perfectly possible to cycle without lycra, although he would need to tuck those trousers into his socks to keep them from getting caught in the chain...
