We've been looking for a few months for the next bike for our 8yo girl. She's very tall at 140cm, with long legs, 67cm inside leg, not a long arm reach though yet. (Her legs seem quite long, which means some look really awkward when she ride them, knees upto her armpits!)
She's had an Islabike Beinn 20L, which she loved, 20" wheels. By the end of last summer she had outgrown it. Lightweight and simple. However all the next ones seem too big a big jump! I thought we'd be able to find a 26" wheel size bike, but most seem to be 700/27.5, which confidence wise is quite a jump.
Sizing wise seems to put her right at the end of kids bikes or right at the beginning of adults bikes. So far we have looked at:

- Something like the Specialized Riprock 24 seems great, but it's too small.
- She tried a Spec Rockhopper 2022 Hardtail XS size, which was kinda ok, but handlebars are quite wide and controls are a bit of a reach.
- Spec Sirrus just seemed a bit big.
- Frog 69/73 seemed kinda ok, but all the mudguards etc made it look very city.
- Boardman JNR 26
- Cannondale Trail 26 looked interesting, but can't find a dealer anywhere even remotely near.
- Lightweight.
- Budget can be around £500-600.
- Confidence level is mid, not daring, but not a beginner either.
- Doesn't need to have front susp, we aren't doing trails, more like cycle paths etc.
- Not a problem if it has susp, but it might be unnecessary weight. Plus without lockout, might hinder her on hills. (Or cost more to get lockout!)
- Ideally we want it to last her 2 summers, which is what seems to be pushing us to the small adult size bikes.
