Has anyone tried staying here? Tan Hill Inn is the highest inn in England, but they are not very good at picking up the phone or replying to emails.

TripAdvisor has it listed. The reviews look pretty mixed... Probably better places in the area.

Wow, I just read trip advisor, a few too many reviews that are similar. What a shame, remember visiting it many years ago -but just for a drink.

Hmmmm...... only for values of 'the area' which define quite a large area, what with it being an isolated building, 528m up on the Pennines and a non-trivial number of miles from the nearest anything!
I can't comment on the standard of the accommodation, but it's a very atmospheric place and should get a huge number of points for 'great location'.

No idea if you can stay there but I first saw my husband there when I went, the weekend that the Labour Party took over power from the Tory party. Had a very nice meal there but it's probably changed hands a gazillion times since then.

I decided not to stay there in the end. I read a report that the beer wasn't very good. I did however cycle there, and actually the beer was alright. It was pretty busy for a week day. The climb was not as bad as I feared, but then I feared quite a lot.

Had a drink there when I did a small solo tour a couple of years back.

Very bleak up there.
I was supposed to stay in the bunkhouse the year before but had to drop out. Average (if not novel) place to stay seemed to be the general opinion of the lads who did go.
For the record, I pushed on and stayed in Kirkby Stephen.
