Tandem racing

After watching all the Tours lately, and now watching the road championships, the question occurred to me, is there, or has there ever been Tandem racing? In rowing they have pairs events so why not cycling? Think it would prove worthwhile viewing!

In the paralympics you get visually impaired stokers on tandems doing the track cycling with a sighted guide as the pilot.
