I'm thinking of buying a set of Tannus tyres for commuting, but am having a bit of trouble working out which size/variety I need.

I can order them here: http://www.thesolidtyre.com/

Mine’s a Cyclocross bike (Edinburgh Bicycle Coop Revolution Cross '13) so has fairly “fat” tyres as standard – it came supplied with 700x35C, which I replaced with Continental Travel Contact 700x37c.

Ideally I'd like to go for something fairly grippy that will be reasonable on roads, but also good on the rough grass-strewn cycle tracks on which I spend most of my time.

Anyone able to help?

I think 'crap' is a bit harsh, but a couple of users on here have reported some downsides.

Grip is said to be average, and declines with use.

Wear rate is another question, given the cost and difficulty of changing.

No personal experience but those that have tried have said they are a heavy harsh ride with minimal grip.
There are plenty of "normal" tyres out there with decent puncture protection that will do a far better job. Schwalbe marathons for starters.
