Tapered headsets

Not a question as such but y'all should be aware that, currently, top end race bikes have a headset that tapers, for example from 1 1/8" to 1 1/2", so you would need tapered forks on such a bike. So far it has only appeared on high-end bikes but it might feature on mid- to low-end bikes in a few years, like integrated headsets... manufacturers forcing a racing pretence onto noodlers like me perhaps?
 
I am thinking that they have been around for years. The thing is you are not going to put a £50 headset or a £80 set of forks on a £2500 racing bike or are you?

well it's fine for superbikes, I am just worried that £500 machines will have them & lead to un-necessary complication that puts people off cycling
