Looking at this thread reminded me of the time I bought something at B&Q with my debit card and got home to find the first advert I saw on the computer was for that product, clicking off this thread to see new posts I look at the top the screen and there is an advert for B&Q.
Did you have the location button enabled on your phone ? If so, Google can target you based on where you have been!

I posted about this on the coincidence thread the other day, but we were talking about ordering fish n chips for tea and the next ad that popped up was for Just Eat...

I don't think I have it enabled, I only use my phone for Strava with GPS enabled, everything else is switched off to save the battery.

I wouldn't read anything into this. If they knew you had just bought it, why would they be showing you ads for it?

Have you never bought something online and then had an advert for that very same product?

Yes, and that's because they know you were searching for it but they do not know that you have bought it. They want to advertise things to you that you are in the market for, not things you have just bought, and won't buy again.

Get them to go back again, if it was only a store ad not a product ad.

I had used B&Q online before so they have all my details to start with, I don't see why they would not record all my in-store purchases.

Nectar Card customers are having all their purchases tracked through EPOS.

Yes, but if they did that, they wouldn't be advertising the product you just bought. Eg, if they knew you bought a lawn mower, they would show you ads for fertiliser, or hoses or garden furniture or hedge trimmers - other things for whipping the spring garden into shape. The fact the ad was for the same product pretty much proves they don't know you have purchased it.

Amazon doesn't show ads for more mobile phones just after you bought one: it shows ads for screen protectors and cases.

It could just be a coincidence but I prefer the conspiracy theory.

I was just looking at wellies on the Go Outdoors website, then I open CC and lo and behold, a targeted ad for wellies from Go Outdoors - exactly the same ones I was just looking at.

What's the point? I thought advertising was supposed to tell you things you didn't know about already. Perhaps they were worried that I'd just got distracted before making a purchase - "Hey, don't forget to buy some wellies, you nitwit!"

Booking.com always send me advertising for hotels in places I have already been to. About two years ago I had to book a hotel in Cheltenham. Have been getting adverts encouraging me to stay in Cheltenham ever since. (I didn't really want to go there in the first place!)
